Who is the raddest Pokémon?

Hey folks, Newbs here. Weskimo is out for the count this week, which means his duties as Question of the Week supplier are open to be commandeered.

The all new Pokémon Black and White hit stores this week, which has got me thinking about those rascally little pocket monsters. One of the big draws of the new games is that you will not see or catch any of the Pokémon from previous generations, except (spoilers) maybe later.

I still have a strong attachment to the ‘mons of old, however, and would like to celebrate their radical greatness with this week’s poll. Tell me, who is the raddest Pokémon?

I recognize there a few more contenders than those listed, so feel free to register your favourite in the comments below if you do not agree with my nominations.

What? Pokémon are evolving into sexy ladies!

The post-re-post blog-o-”sphere” has churned up a spectacular 493-drawing strong image of every Pokémon re-imagined as a sexy anime lady. Let’s all amuse ourselves by staring at it. This isn’t a furry thing, right?

This being the internet, the original source has already been lost and I cannot credit the creative genius behind this masterwork of 21st-century pop culture fetishism.

What I can tell you, however, is that Comics Alliance has already helpfully placed Miltank and her human counterpart side-by-side (see above), so my work as fetish pointer/laugher/admirer is already done.

Japan wants the worst Pokémon

Ever heard of Arceus? How about Darkrai or Deoxys? If not, then you are no Pokémaster. Those mysterious pocket monsters took first, second, and third place respectively in a poll seeking to discover Japan’s favourite Pokémon.

The poll was conducted in September by The Pokémon Company ahead of the release of Pokémon Black and White to see which of the ball-dwelling monsters from outside Black and White fans wanted to see made catch-able in a game feature called Dream World.

Fourth and fifth places went to a couple slightly more familiar characters, Pikachu and Meowth.

Dear Japan, where’s Snorlax? Where’s Jigglypuff? Wheeeeere is Mudkip?

Man arrested for Poké pics leak

November 3, 2010 News No Comments

In the games, the appearance of a wild Pokémon is generally considered a good thing. You can fight them for XP, or you can catch them to expand your collection. It turns out, however, that real-life encounters with pocket monsters are not nearly so enjoyable.

Police of Chikusei, Japan have arrested 27-year-old Makoto Sekiguchi for posting six images of previously-unrevealed Pokémon online from his cell phone. This news renders Pokémon Snap deeply confusing and perhaps even morally ambiguous.

The new Pokemans (as they are known on the internet) were to be revealed September 15th in an issue of CoroCoro Comic.

Police made the discovery during “cyber patrol.” That’s where cops scour the internet looking for instances of law breaking. Apparently, catching mild forms of copyright infringement is serious business.

After 230 days of searching, kid catches shiny Ponyta

September 25, 2010 News 1 Comment

After playing three copies of Pokémon simultaneously and racking up 25 968 encounters between them over 230 days, 15-year-old YouTuber Abenzio499 has finally achieved what most men can only dream of, he has caught a shiny Ponyta.

A mere 133 hours into his play-through of LeafGreen, the passionate Pokéfan acquired his long hoped-for palette-swap of the unremarkable Fire type. Shinies have a 1/8192 encounter rate, and are thus quite rare, but are otherwise no different than their non-shiny counterparts. Abenzio499 took the opportunity to remind his viewers to “never give up.” He also thanked God and the magic of Sum41 for his accomplishment.

Just remember, Abenzio499, it may seem fun to do the same things over and over again now, but in time you may discover that had you used the freedom of your youth to experience a wider variety of things (even just other games) you would have more to talk about on your website.
