The Dungeon’s Boss: Q1 2010 update, and some Games Played

Already being over a month overdue for what is supposed to be a quarterly update to my games collection database, I have decided that it is now time to make that update. The database now reflects additions and subtractions made to my disturbingly/arousingly large games collection during the first three months of 2010. Since March, a significant number of changes have taken place, but I’ll have to refrain from adding those until the Q2 update.

Quarter 1 saw some incredible changes to my collection. I managed to beat-back the over-heavy presences of both unbeaten GBA games and RPGs. I found $1 copy Space Iinvaders for the Atari 2600 which, for the time being, has no system to be played on, and picked up some NES classics on the cheap, those being Lolo 3, Metal Gear, Blastermaster, and Hogan’s Alley.

Perhaps most significantly, I also picked up a PS1 (at the same thrift store I found the Atari game), along with my first PS1 game, WipeOut XL. I’m excited for another opportunity to check out how the “other half” was living, this time from the era when I was focused on blasting Russians in GoldenEye.

The Dungeon’s Boss: Games Played, Preview #2

For most things in life, I am a procrastinator, even when it comes to tasks I enjoy. That includes school work, site work, cleaning, and email writing. Man, writing emails sounds like a lot of work before you sit down to write them. The one exception to this rule is video game playing: my anticipated start date of January 1, 2010 hasn’t even arrived, and yet I’m already deep into passionate gaming.

Last week, I discussed my experiences with Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and F-Zero: Maximum Velocity. I had already beaten those games by the time I wrote about them, and so, of course, I have moved on to yet more games. This week, I will be talking about some games that I am no where close to beating, Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II, from the Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls GBA collection.

The Dungeon’s Boss: Games Played, a Preview

Once my quest for a higher plane of gaming existence begins in earnest, I plan on making posts at least monthly in which I will detail those titles that I am either currently playing or have recently beaten. I will describe the joy and pain which they bring me, and generally treat my gaming collection like the beloved child that it is. Although that won’t be until 2010, I have games I’ve been playing that I’d like to talk about, some of which have been haunting me on the backlog for some time. Think of this as a sort of non-canonical prequel to those upcoming posts.

The Dungeon’s Boss: Controlling Handhelds

Preparations for my 2010 gaming strategy continue. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time debating with myself the particular issue of GameBoy games, and how to play them. I have a GameBoy, GBA, DS, Super GameBoy, and GameBoy Player, and just about any one or two of them are all that’s needed to get through my many pre-DS handheld games. Having said that, the only one that’s truly comfortable is the SNES controller that goes with the Super GameBoy, and that won’t play GBA games. The DS cuts into my hand, the GBA screen hurts my eyes, and the GameCube controller’s d-pad is horrendous.

Minish Cap: Complete

January 30, 2005 Newbs No Comments

I’m sure you’ve all been waiting with bated breath since I last updated to find out if I ever did beat Minish Cap. Well here’s your answer, I have completed the game, huzzah’s all around. Since this is a Zelda game, and since there’s a small chance you didn’t read my post about it on the forums, I am now able to fit Minish Cap into my ranking of the Zelda games, so here it is:

1. Link to the Past
2. Ocarina of Time
3. Wind Waker
4. Minish Cap
5. Majora’s Mask
6. Oracle of Ages
7. Oracle of Seasons

Well there you have it, that’s some important shit to know if you’re planning on writing my biography. There are many other Zelda games, and indeed I do own them all, some day I’ll play them through and then those shall be ranked as well. Now that Minish Cap is out of the way, I can finally return to the games I’ve been trying to play and/or replay for the last millennia or so: Majora’s Mask, Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil 0, Metroid Prime[hard] and Metroid Prime 2. It’s not that I’m a nerd of immeasurable stature, I just have no attention span and so must switch between games every meal or so.
