TheChive.com manufactures meme: HOPA/HPOA girl
Overly-popular photo blog TheChive recently posted a series of messages in which an attractive girl proclaimed how awful her boss was, and that she was quitting. The story, according to TheChive, is that she emailed these images to everyone in her former office. Much of the story the girl told via marker was that she overheard her boss call her a “HOPA,” which apparently is a dyslexic version of the acronym “HPOA” (hot piece of ass), and now the internet knows her as HOPA girl.
Utterly unsurprisingly, it turns out the HOPA girl is a fake. TheChive hired a model, and posted her images up at 4:30am to see if they could circulate a hoax. The lazy bloggers of the internet quickly did TheChive’s work, and circulated the story all over the damn place. A TheChive writer reports going from 15 000 unique visitors to 440 000 in the first hour of the article’s posting.
