Teen powergames his way to weight loss
Taylor LeBaron was a 14 year old with a problem: he was a fatty. Taking inspiration from his beloved video games, LeBaron set out to fight the weight the way Terra and Locke set out to fight Kefka, through small, incremental steps that build upon each other. In just 18 months he managed to lose 150 pounds this way.
LeBaron was on The Today Show recently, promoting his new book Cutting Myself in Half: 150 Pounds Lost One Byte at a Time, where he explained his system. “You have enemies, you have allies, and you have money. You have to play smart; otherwise, you run out of your money. Your score needs to be high at the end of the day.”
Taylor, who has actually collected all the achievements in GTA IV, says that he began by sizing up the opponents of his fitness, which included a sedentary life-style, large portions, and stress. Once he had learned his enemies like Samus performing visor scans, he was ready. LeBaron started humbly, like the spiky-haired hero of a Japanese RPG, by working out at his local YMCA wearing sunglasses, jeans, and boots. From there, he min-maxed his way to a healthy lifestyle, and has gone from 300 pounds down to 145.
