Stewart announces Rally to Restore Sanity, Colbert’s got March to Keep Fear Alive

September 18, 2010 News 14 Comments

Jon Stewart announced Thursday on “The Daily Show” that he would be holding the Rally to Restore Sanity. The event will be held on the National Mall in Washington, DC October 30. According to the official website:

We’re looking for the people who think shouting is annoying, counterproductive, and terrible for your throat; who feel that the loudest voices shouldn’t be the only ones that get heard; and who believe that the only time it’s appropriate to draw a Hitler mustache on someone is when that person is actually Hitler. Or Charlie Chaplin in certain roles.

Not to be outdone, Stephen Colbert has announced his own rally, March to Keep Fear Alive, for the exact same time, date, and place. That event’s site claims:

They want to replace our Fear with reason. But never forget — “Reason” is just one letter away from “Treason.” Coincidence? Reasonable people would say it is, but America can’t afford to take that chance.

The two events come as a response to Glenn Beck’s August 28th Restoring Honor rally, which brought thousands of conspiracy theorists and racist whack jobs out to celebrate God and military.

This whole thing seems to have started when Reddit user mrsammercer opened a discussion thread entitled “I’ve had a vision and I can’t shake it: Colbert needs to hold a satirical rally in DC” on August 31. The Reddit community got behind the idea, and drew Colbert’s attention by raising over $200 000 for his charity, DonorsChoose.org.

You haven’t a clue about what the Restoring Honor rally was about. It’s sad really

  3. Grifter says:

Sad is that you don’t realize that Glenn Beck is callously manipulating you. Have you bought into Goldline yet?

  4. Dan says:

haha. Glenn Beck has some good points but is way out there sometimes. Republicans and democrats are retarded and they’re all riding the American people for as long as they can. I know Stewart and Colbert are very intelligent and informed people, I can’t wait to see them addressing some issues here.

  5. Hap says:

Stewart and Colbert are just as brain dead as the idea they think they have. Two morons who just want to stir up more trouble and agitate.Too stupid to keep quiet and let the voters do what they will.

    • Glenn Beck says:

YEAH! GO HAP! VOTE PALIN IN 2012!

    • Pah says:

So if you are blaming Stewart and Colbert for being agitators and not letting the voter do what they will, what do you think Glenn Beck does?……Does he not stir up trouble? Do Stewart and Colbert not have the same right as Beck? You Tea-Baggers really have to check your hypocrisy…… GO PALIN 2012! ;)

    • J says:

Yeah, because the way to get Republicans elected is to make sure nobody knows anything about the issues – that way they can’t make an informed decision!

  6. djw says:

My, Hap, what an obvious bias you have!

  7. John says:

It was sad to see Glenn Beck drawing so many supporters, he is such a wacko. Republicans are confusing so many people with their crazy, over-the-top rhetoric, people cannot approach their issues with a reasonable answer, it’s all nonsense fringing on the real issues with a huge emotional bent. Glenn Beck is not insightful – he plays a seriously demented game on people who feed on highly emotional feelings without regard or consideration of the truth or the facts. I pray this up coming rally erases all of this confusion and not create more.

  8. Sam says:

Stewart and Colbert are hilarious! Even if u absolutely love Glenn beck, u have to no that Stewart and Colbert make fun of everyone. i don’t care if they believe all the conservative mush they say but their “Christian nation” rhetoric pisses me off
