RUMOUR: two more Independence Day movies coming
File this one under “unnecessary sequels.” Oh wait, I think I will.
It is now being heavily rumoured that 20th Century Fox has signed Will “Welcome to Earf” Smith up for two, I say again, two Independence Day sequels.
Writer/director Roland “End of the World” Emmerich would return to helm the project I would have been mildly excited about as a 13-year-old in 1998. Emmerich has previously stated that he would want to continue the story of the first film, and has suggested the movies be titled ID4-Ever, Part I and Part II.
Apparently, the evil alien hordes have finally Mac-proofed their computers and are ready to clash once more with a broad cast of people whose lives appear unrelated but then all come together in the end.
The original film, which I thought was kind of cheesy as a kid in 1996, earned $817.4 million worldwide.
I hope Jeff Goldblum returns.
