Patrick Stewart fears gaming addiction
Patrick Stewart recently took some time to participate in PBS Frontline’s Digital Nation series, and explained his interests and disinterests when it comes to technology. He says that while he’s put off by Twitter’s 140 character limit, he loves email and the internet. I think that’s too bad, it’d be great to see him bantering with Twitter superstars Wil Wheaton, LeVar Burton, and Brent Spiner.
The most fascinating part of the video comes when he tackles the issue of video games. Sir Stewart has nothing negative to say about them, only that he bars himself from trying them because he fears the addiction. Interestingly, he says he has a stack of games shrink wrapped at home which he refuses to open. My guess is that they’re all the games he’s done voice work in.
Perhaps Stewart over-learned his lesson from that episode of TNG “The Game” where the crew of the Enterprise becomes addicted to a video game. Sadly, we haven’t invented anything as fun as throwing red Frisbees into purple wormholes yet, so I don’t think he has cause to be so worried.
