NPD group has released the US video game sales for November 2009. Although the results are a little disappointing, the good guys still won. Last month, I predicted that the Wii would outsell the 360, PS3, and PSP combined, and that didn’t happen. The Wii still beat them individually, selling 1.26 million, compared with 819.5K for the 360, 710.4K for the PS3, and a sad 293.9K for the PSP. The DS dominated the PSP once again, selling 1.7 million units.
Software sales were also a disappointment. I had predicted New Super Mario Bros. Wii would outsell Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the month, and it most certainly did not. CoD:MW2 sold 4.2 million on the 360 and 1.87 million on the PS3, claiming the top two spots on the software chart. NSMB Wii came in third at 1.39 million. There is little doubt, however, that Mario will eventually outsell Modern Warfare 2 in worldwide lifetime sales, as Nintendo’s games tend have broader worldwide appeal and longer sales legs.
My predictions for December are as follows: DS and Wii system sales will combine to reach a number over 10 million. The competition will weep in shame and then surrender. NSMB Wii will be the top selling game.
