May NPD numbers: cowboys vs. plumbers

That’s right folks, it’s my favourite time of the month! NPD group has released another month of US sales stats, and I am excited to sound disillusioned and troll you!
Hardware results were nothing short of a staggering success for the month. Nintendo devastated the competition with their holy Wii-DS combo.
The Wii dwarfed its console competition, selling 334 800 units, as compared to a mere 194 600 for the 360, and 154 500 for the PS3. The handheld front was even more of an utter blow out. The DS sold 383 700 units to PSP’s 59 400. That’s right, I didn’t miss a digit there. The PSP sold under 60 000 units in May of 2010.
Software was significantly less heart-warming than hardware, unfortunately. Red Dead Redemption took the top two spots, selling 945.9K on the 360, and 567.1K on the PS3. Ever the disappointers, US consumers only led Super Mario Galaxy 2 to third place with 563.9K copies sold.
My prediction last month was simple: Mario wins. Unfortunately, that was incorrect. This month I’m going ensure victory with a prediction that is all but certain to actually occur: next month’s numbers will make me hate. That’s it. Just, hate.
