March NPD numbers rise to heaven

April 15, 2010 News 1 Comment

After enduring February’s depressing sales results, the Nintendo armed forces should feel vindicated by March 2010′s results.

US sales of the Wii and DS exploded last month, with the DS taking first spot with over 700K units sold, and the Wii right behind it in second place with 557.5K sold.

Consumers made some fairly reasonable software choices as well. Although Sony’s God of War III technically took first place with 1.1M sold, combined sales of Pokémon SoulSilver and HeartGold easily trounced the repetitive and routine PS3 game. Some arbitrarily call the silver edition Pokémon game “SuperiorSilver,” and that name has been borne out in sales results. SS sold 1.02M copies, compared with just 761.2K for HG.

My predictions from last month appear to have come largely true. Nintendo did dominate, although the graph above does not resemble a giant spherical ass with Nintendo’s competitors squashed into a crack between Nintendo’s mighty buttocks. I’m going to go ahead and just predict that that’s what’ll happen next month.
