Make-believe specs for Wii 2 surface

MaxConsole has posted some supposedly possible leaked stats for a “Wii 2″ console, releasing in the third quarter 2010. The info strikes me as more of a DS Lite->DSi type of jump, rather than to a truly new generation of console. Not that that is relevant, considering the sheer silliness of it all. Let me analyze this leaked info, and try to determine its legitimacy.

• The Wii2 system will feature a Blu-Ray drive with a secondary aim of stopping piracy.

Just like the GameCube and Wii ran DVDs, right? There is only one thing Nintendo loves more than making money, and that’s depriving Sony of money. Sony is part of the Blu-Ray consortium, and Nintendo will never pay the rights to use that technology.

• A scheme will be available in which it is possible to trade in the original Wii for a cheaper price on the new Wii 2.

Ahahahaha. And do what with those old Wiis, exactly? This is absolutely ridiculous. Has Nintendo decided that they are now a charity organization?

Expect Nintendo to not release a console until at least 2011.
