Lineage II addict “unable to function independently” finds time to file lawsuit

August 20, 2010 News 4 Comments

We live in time in which it is not uncommon for cranky nerds with nothing better to do to file frivolous lawsuits against the corporations which entertain them. What is less common is for judges not to throw out the cases immediately.

Hawaiian man Craig Smallwood has brought a negligence lawsuit against NCsoft for supposedly not properly warning against the dangerously addictive nature of the grind-heavy MMO Lineage II. Amazingly, a federal judge is allowing the case to proceed. Smallwood claims to have played the titillating title for 20,000 hours between 2004 and 2009 (that’s an average of 11 hours a day).

Smallwood’s addiction was so severe that he was “unable to function independently in usual daily activities such as getting up, getting dressed, bathing or communicating with family and friends.” Wait. Screaming at your mom for more Pizza Pops and energy drinks isn’t communicating with your family? A half-open robe doesn’t constitute getting dressed?
