Billy Mitchell reclaims Donkey Kong high score
Update: King of Kong hero Steve Wiebe has now retaken the record.
Infamous villain of the vintage arcade scene Billy Mitchell has taken back his titles of Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. world champion.
The mullet man himself racked up 1,062,800 points in Donkey Kong, barely surpassing recent Kong-upstart Hank Chien before quitting the game. When asked why he stopped without running up his score, Mitchell responded: “Some say I’m being cocky. Some say I’m being lazy. I say, I’m being Billy Mitchell.” It’s currently unknown if an American flag fluttered behind Billy and music crescendoed as he made this statement
After achieving his first-place status in Donkey Kong, Mitchell moved on to re-conquer top place in Donkey Kong Jr. as well. The hot sauce entrepreneur says he did all to celebrate the opening of Ottumwa, Iowa’s International Video Game Hall of Fame.
