All aboard the hype train: Nintendo to hold mystery conference
There is perhaps no finer internet tradition than getting overly excited about an upcoming Nintendo conference. The company’s ability to throw fans into a fervor by doing nothing more than scheduling a press event is legendary. It was only a few years ago that the internet convinced itself the company would be merging with several other developers and announcing it at an event that would come to be known as “Thursdayton.” Hype for the event even spawned the term “megaton.”
Of course, nothing ever came of that particular hype train, but given how many hype trains we Nintendo fans have created and subsequently jumped aboard, we have occasionally managed to be right. This time around, things look to be on the more promising and real side. Nintendo has announced that they will be holding a media summit February 24th. This coincides with Official Nintendo Magazine teasing that something big will be released March 12th.
Safer speculators are saying that this could be either Mario Galaxy 2 or Metroid Other M getting reintroduced to the public and then being quickly released a few weeks later. This really could be anything though, especially with new hardware rumours floating around lately. Personally, I’m hoping it’s Pikmin 3.
