Nerd Olympics 2010 Games Preview: Part I

February 4, 2010 Nerd Olympics 1 Comment

This week, sulci takes a look at the first 4 events taking place at Nerd Olympics this year: SNK vs Capcom: SVC Chaos, Call of Duty 4, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2, and R-type Leo.

SNK vs Capcon: SVC Chaos
Starting out the events this year at Nerd Olympics is an old school, button-jamming arcade fighter. SNK vs Capcon: SVC Chaos is based on the play style of King of Fighters, and features 24 initial characters from KOF, Street Fighter, Darkstalkers, Samurai Showdown. and more. You can perform special moves by filling up your “groove” gauge to level 2 or maxing it out at level 3. You also get a special “Exceed” move when your health is less than half.

At the NO (Nerd Olympics) event this year, the game will be played best as a best-of-3, single elimination tournament, with stock characters only. You can practice this game on a Neo Geo arcade or X-Box.

New “Zone” SEGA console shames company more than ever

February 4, 2010 News No Comments

More so than perhaps any other company on Earth, SEGA loves to rape the ever-loving-shit out of its once proud legacy. The company, which had one successful console fifteen years ago and is still trying to trade on your good memories of the thing, has decided to make a sketchy Wii clone, territory usually reserved for mall kiosk cons.

The new SEGA Zone will retail for about $80 US and come packaged with 20 classic SEGA titles like Ecco, Golden Axe, and Sonic, two Wii-mote-like controllers, and 30 new games (16 of which are motion controlled).

The new games are what you would expect to find on a cheap Wii clone, they’re things like table tennis, darts, and fencing.

Congratulations SEGA, I didn’t think you could sink any lower after all those awful furry-filled 3D Sonic games, but this really is a new level of shame for you.

Garbage is back, new album coming

February 4, 2010 News No Comments

Shirley Manson is roughly the second hottest woman alive today. Maybe you know her as a T-1001 liquid metal Terminator, or as that crazy Scottish woman who goes on Craig Ferguson all the time, but her true claim to fame is as lead singer of my favourite band, Garbage.

Shirley, who I wrote a letter to just a few months ago, has teased her stalker-like Facebook fans with the following not-so-cryptic message about the return of Garbage:

Anyway…….
on a final note
Guess who I just spent a week in the studio with?
Would you be pleased if I said one of them was called Steve and one of them was called Duke and another was a grammy winning producer?
Who loves ya?
x

It would seem Manson got my message about ending that silly hiatus her band had gone on, and is back at work producing new music with them. Now for phase 2, convincing Shirley and crew to make a tour stop conveniently near me.
